How to Launch Your Podcast by Labor Day Weekend (Even If You’re Starting From Zero)

It was July 31st, almost 10 p.m., and I was lying in bed doing the thing I always do: reeling. Tomorrow was August, my birthday month, the best month of the year. But August also means we are in what I call the Sunday of summer. If June is Friday and July is Saturday, August is Sunday, that quiet stretch right before Labor Day hits and everything resets.

And just like a Sunday night, I started thinking about all the plans people are sitting on. The podcast idea that’s been on the list since January. The one you keep kicking down the road because the timing never feels right.

So here is exactly what I would do if I wanted to launch a podcast by Labor Day weekend this year. Clock’s ticking, but it is absolutely still possible.

Get Your Mindset Right First

Labor Day is a cultural reset. Once the state fair wraps up here in Minnesota, summer is over and it’s back to business. I want you to treat Labor Day as your starting line, not your finish line. Podcasting can take you to some incredible places, but only if you actually do the work to get there. Decide now that you are running this race.

Start With a Micro Podcast

Do not launch a podcast on Labor Day weekend expecting hour-long interview episodes every week. That is not sustainable, and unsustainable is how shows die at episode three. Instead, focus on a micro podcast: audio only, 10 minutes or less. It is the format I build with several of my current clients, and it works because it is batchable, consistent, and actually finishable. Start small, get your feet wet, and get comfortable with the process before you scale it up.

Mine Your FAQs for Content

You are already answering the same questions over and over in your business. Discovery calls, client conversations, DMs. Open the notes app on your phone right now and start writing down every question you get asked more than once, or any question you immediately knew the answer to. Each one of those becomes an episode. Bonus points if the question doubles as your episode title. That is the kind of SEO gold that shows up when someone types that exact phrase into Google, ChatGPT, or Gemini looking for an answer.

Pick Your Three Content Buckets

FAQs are the easiest place to start, but eventually you will run out of them. That is where your content buckets come in: three core topics tied to your niche that every episode needs to fall into. This keeps your show cohesive instead of spiraling into fifteen directions, which I know from experience because that is exactly what happened when I started this show. We all figure it out as we go.

Batch Record Your First Month

Batch recording is the secret to basically everything in podcasting. Carve out a day, even half a day, and record a full month of episodes in one sitting. If you are doing the micro podcast format, that is realistically an hour of talking once you’re scripted and ready. Have it recorded and sitting in the hopper so editing time is actually editing time, not scrambling to record and edit at once.

Call in Help If You Need It

You have two real options here: learn to do this yourself, or hand it off to someone who already knows how. Both are valid. If you want to learn it, my Bet on Your Podcast course walks you through every step. If you would rather cross it off your list entirely, that is what I do for a living.

Either way, launching by Labor Day weekend is completely doable. Get your mindset right, start small, batch your recording, and ask for help when you need it. The time is now. Let’s get your show live.
